Nanea Miyata is a Japanese American writer/director based in Los Angeles, with five generations of family roots in Hawaiʻi. A multi-hyphenate who also writes music, she has directed ten feature films for major broadcast/streaming partners (nine of which she also wrote) and is known for delivering polished work under tight schedules and budgets.
After co-founding June Street Studios in 2015, she wrote, directed, and produced commercials and branded content for clients including Ford, Honda, and Mattel, alongside award-winning shorts and music videos. Her debut feature film, Christmas Harmony, sold to Lifetime, followed by the contained thriller Dead in the Water, which she wrote, directed and produced during the 2020 pandemic shutdown with a micro-crew of seven people during quarantine; it premiered in January 2021 as Lifetime Movie Club's first debut original feature.
Nanea's work is informed by her longtime advocacy for Rett Syndrome research, the rare neurological disorder that affects her sister and 350,000 others worldwide. She produces annual documentary-style content that has helped raise over $10M over the past ten years, with 96% directed to scientific research.
